La position de l'hôtel est parfaite, notre chambre était propre, petite certes mais très confortable, très bonne literie. Le personnel est attentionné et disponible. On se sent en sécurité, au calme. Une très belle expérience.
The Best Western Royal Hotel in Caen is a great place to stay if you want a base to explore the D-Day beaches and museums. It is affordable and offers a superb breakfast to start your day. Also in the city, the Caen Memorial is one of the best D-Day museums—perhaps the best—and it’s a pleasant walk (but long, about forty minutes) from the hotel. From the Best Western Royal Hotel, you can take an easy 15-minute walk to the train station downtown, and from there catch a train to Bayeux, where many D-Day tours meet. At the train station, you’ll find car rental offices (including SIXT, my favorite when I’m in Europe), where you can rent a car to drive around the D-Day beaches and museums (a car is essential; the beaches are too spread out to rely on public transportation or bicycle rentals). At day’s end, you can have dinner at any one of the many restaurants near the hotel. The hotel staff is also very kind and helpful, especially Mathilde. I had to stay in Caen a day longer than I had planned because I lacked a Electronic Travel Authorization to enter the UK by ferry. (This is a warning to all travelers planning to enter the UK: get your ETA first! The application process is simple, and you can do it online.) Mathilde was extremely thoughtful in suggesting museums and places I could visit during my extra day in France; I ended up going to Bayeux and seeing the Normandy D-Day Museum there, which was excellent. The hotel also was good about calling a taxi, which I needed to reach the ferry terminal. The Best Western Royal Hotel has nice touches that you’ll appreciate. The lobby features a water cooler where you can quench your thirst, and they offer croissants there as well. Stay here if you want to visit the Normandy beaches!
Un bon établissement, attention toutefois au choix de la chambre Cet hôtel Best Western bénéficie d'un emplacement idéal et offre des prestations tout à fait conformes aux standards de la marque. Cependant, il présente un défaut majeur à prendre en compte avant de réserver : l'isolation phonique des chambres situées côté place. C'est le point noir : le bruit de la rue y est particulièrement perceptible (à tel point que des boules Quies sont fournies directement dans la chambre). Pensez à demander une chambre en retrait de la place lors de votre réservation pour garantir votre tranquillité. Côté stationnement : l'hôtel ne propose malheureusement aucun tarif préférentiel pour le parking sous terrain situé juste en face qui est certes très pratique, mais qui sera à régler au plein tarif.
