Caen, in Calvados, is famous for its Memorial and its proximity to the D-Day landing beaches.

It's also a dynamic, cultural town with plenty to offer, especially in summer!

Swimming and relaxing on the beaches of Caen la Mer

An extension of the town of Caen on the English Channel side, Caen la Mer has several beaches just a twenty-minute drive from our hotel!

• Ouistreham Riva Bella beach: with its family atmosphere, this long sandy beach has something for everyone: supervised swimming, water sports, sunbathing... Take the opportunity to visit the Atlantic Wall Museum, a 5-minute walk away.
• Plage de Lion sur Mer: a wild beach bordered by cliffs offering pleasant views of the Côte de Nacre. It's a firm favourite with anglers!
• Colleville-Montgomery beach: unlike other beaches in the area, this beach has retained its natural dune. You might even be lucky enough to spot some seals!

Choose your favourite beach, put on your swimming costume and put down your towel!

 

Stroll around the Saint-Pierre market

With 400 traders, this is the biggest market in Caen, and a must for locals.

It takes place on the waterfront, along the Quai Vendeuvre, in a friendly atmosphere.

Tip: fill your basket with gourmet produce, fresh fruit and cider and enjoy the spoils in the gardens of the Abbaye aux Dames.

 

Discover the exceptional exhibition Robert Doisneau, crossing a century

Throughout the summer, Caen town hall is hosting a retrospective exhibition of the work of the world-famous French photographer Robert Doisneau.

His most famous photograph: Le Baiser de l'hôtel de ville (1950). This exhibition, first shown in Spain, is the only one of its kind in France.

It features 88 black-and-white photos on the themes of love, the working class and Paris.
