In 2025, the city of Caen celebrates 1,000 years of history and heritage through a rich and varied program.
From March 20 to December 31, 2025, the city of William the Conqueror commemorates its past, its heritage, but also its artists.
Between shows, exhibitions and concerts, come and experience a unique moment to pay tribute to Caen.
On the occasion of its Millennium, the city of Caen offers throughout the year 2025 six highlights to honor its heritage and history.
From March 20 to 23, 2025, the festivities are officially inaugurated with music at the Château de Caen, one of the largest medieval fortresses in Europe.
After two years of restoration, the castle will reopen its doors! You will have the chance to rediscover this emblematic monument and admire the masterful fresco that will be projected every evening on the ramparts.
History Days will take place from March 21 to 28, 2025. The opportunity to attend a series of events around the major periods of Caen, from the Middle Ages to the present day.
On the program: conferences, exhibitions, immersive show and workshops in 3 historic locations: the Castle, the Abbaye-aux-Dames and the University.
A medieval village will be recreated in the heart of the Abbey park.
Come and watch a spectacular parade on May 9, 2025 on a 5-kilometer route, from the Prairie to the Bassin Saint-Pierre. 5 stations will each represent a key period in the history of Caen.
Monumental floats and artistic performances will also enliven this unique stroll produced by the Caen company Le Ballon Vert.
From June 27 to 29, 2025, the Maritime Weekend will highlight Caen's relationship with the sea. Forty-eight ships, including the Belem, will be moored at the port to symbolize the 48 municipalities of the Caen la mer urban community.
Don't miss the nautical parades, ephemeral works and maritime entertainment on the program.
The Swedish company Cirkus Cirkör will present Aquanauts, from September 19 to 21, 2025, an aquatic and poetic show in the port of Caen.
Between acrobatics and artistic performances on the water, this show performed by 40 circus artists promises to amaze young and old alike.
During the summer of 2025, come and admire the 50 luminous works by renowned artists, such as Vincent Leroy, Olafur Eliasson, Georges Rousse and Julien Creuzet.
Installed in emblematic places in the city, they will highlight the richness of Caen's heritage.
In December, a digital art trail will close the festivities.
