Caen racecourse
The Hippodrome de la Prairie has been part of the Caen landscape since the mid-19th century. It is the leading racecourse in France for qualifying French trotters, and one of the oldest in the country.
From March to November, the Hippodrome de Caen's large sand track plays host to around thirty horse racing meetings, as well as more than 45 qualifying events a year. The 1957m-long track is also a major training ground for regional riders.
The Caen Tourist Office offers guided tours "Behind the scenes at the Caen racecourse". You can find out about the stables, how the track is used and maintained, or learn about horse betting.
